KERN Magazine
A P R I N T E D Z I N E - F O L I O
KERN Magazine is a publication that shows a collection of graphic design work I’ve done that embodies the look & feel of a Vogue Magazine while, at the core, is a printed portfolio. Much of the work you’ll see in KERN are projects I have up in more detail on this website.
Aside from showcasing portfolio pieces, KERN is sprinkled with hand-written articles and photography that relate the designs to our society, linking together why design matters, where it’s headed, and how it’s interconnected.

PROCESS WORK & ITERATIONS
My interest in fashion magazine design layouts led me to acquiring a stack that I used as “teachers” to study from and reference while creating KERN. Magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle provided me with bold and elegant typographical layouts, publication inspiration, and design direction when working out choices such as wayfinding and overall aesthetics. Combining this with outside critiques and my own stylistic choices led to a refined yet refreshing hybrid of magazine-meets-designer’s portfolio.
